On Friday, June 2nd, students from Mr. Skelton’s class, Ms. Sala Della Cuna’s class, and the garden club, with the help of the Union County Parks Department, cleaned up Charlotte DeFilippo Park! On May 23rd, 2023, Hillside Innovation Academy (HIA) held its Iron Chef student cooking competition! The 7th and 8th-grade competitors had a great time. Though the competition was close, the judges selected the 7th-grade burger as the winning creation, and their burger will be featured on the June lunch menu at HIA! Congratulations Mr. Todaro & Ms. Williams' second-grade class at Ola Edwards Community School for winning the "Excite Reading All-Star Games"! The students were encouraged to read through our new online platform Learning Ally for 20 minutes a day. The class read for a total of 2,206 minutes to win the game! A.P. Morris Elementary held their Kids Dig in Event on June 1st to celebrate the Dig In! Grant they received alongside other Hillside Public Schools from the Union County Commissioner's Office! A.P. On May 23, 2023, Hillside High School students went to the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture! The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem is one of the world’s leading cultural institutions devoted to the research, preservation, and exhibition of materials focused on African American, African Diaspora, and African experiences. Students explored exhibits such as Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration, which explores the impact of the US prison system on contemporary visual art. Afterward, students and staff went to the world-famous Sylvia's Restaurant for lunch! All in attendance had a wonderful day exploring the rich culture of Harlem.
