Today, October 28, 2024, students from Hillside High School’s Yearbook and Newspaper Clubs attended the Garden State Scholastic Press Association’s Fall Conference at Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ! Students got to select a workshop to attend during each of 5 sessions, ranging in topics from photojournalism to yearbook layout, and many more in between! We look forward to seeing the product our students yield after participating in this training. After the amazing breast cancer walk at Hurden Looker Elementary School, all students in the ESL classes at Hurden Looker were gifted bookbags with supplies! Hurden Looker Elementary School hosted a wonderful breast cancer awareness walk earlier this afternoon (10/25/2024)! Students wore pink and walked around the perimeter of the Hurden Looker school building. The event culminated with students lining up in the playground and forming the shape of a breast cancer awareness ribbon! Kindness Quest blends music and teamwork to explore awareness, empathy, and compassion. Students embark on an engaging laser journey that highlights the importance of community and friendship! They encounter the larger-than-life laser character Max Bravado, who brings learning to life with puzzles, games, and stunning optical illusions. On October 17th, 2024, the Academic Decathlon team visited the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium in Fort Hancock! The team learned about the importance of marshes, how the dunes help maintain the shores and the history of Sandy Hook. The students went shad fishing, which is a technique the Lenape used, in the river and caught hermit crabs, pike fish, shrimp, snails, and other fish along the river! They were able to explore the ocean side to collect shells and rocks. The field guide explained some of the items the students gathered such as sea glass, razor clam shells, and even a full-sized horseshoe crab!
